I’m a systems-oriented software engineer who enjoys understanding how things fit together and making them work well over time. I tend to be drawn to problems with scale and many moving parts, especially when they benefit from clear boundaries and thoughtful design.
I didn’t arrive here through a straight path. Long before engineering was my job, I was using technology to make my own work easier and more efficient. In earlier roles, I was often automating repetitive tasks or building small tools simply because it made the day run better. Over time, those efforts grew into larger systems that other people relied on, and eventually writing software became the focus of my work.
I enjoy working on systems that evolve. I like thinking about how requirements change, how components interact, and how to design things so they can grow without becoming tangled. I value simplicity, but I’m comfortable with complexity when it earns its place.
I do have tools I genuinely enjoy working with. I like Linux a lot, especially NixOS when I have the chance to use it, and Go has become one of my favorite languages because of how clearly it lets me express intent. That said, I see tools as tools. The right choice depends on the problem, the constraints, and the people who will live with the system after it ships.
I care about leaving things in a good state. I try to write code that someone else can read without needing a tour guide, and I like systems where the edges are clear and the defaults make sense. I’ve spent a lot of time working in environments where trust, security, and data handling matter, and that experience has shaped how I think about building software.
I like working on teams that care about the work and create an environment where people regularly think things through together. I enjoy collaboration, shared momentum, and taking a moment to appreciate progress before moving on to the next thing. I’ve found that good work tends to come out of teams that are thoughtful, curious, and comfortable learning from each other.
Outside of work, I’m someone who enjoys simple routines and creative outlets. I love good coffee and usually start my weekends by trying a new roastery. Earlier in life, I toured with an indie rock band, and while that chapter has passed, it left me with a lasting appreciation for collaboration and creative problem solving. I also try to get outdoors whenever I can, especially hiking and spending time in nature, something that stuck with me from growing up in the Pacific Northwest.
My life is centered around my family. My wife Erin, my daughter Frankie, our dog Gertie, and our cat Fluffy Guy keep me grounded and are a constant reminder of what matters most.
